WORKSHOP on Development of Rural Sector by enhanced steel usage on Infrastructure & housing land Increasing Agri-Horti income of the North East
In
keeping up with the “Look East policy of the Government of India, the workshop
at Aizwal was jointly orgainsed by MSTC Limited & Rashtriya Ispat Nigam
Limited, two public sector enterprises under Ministry of Steel, to sensitise
and create awareness in the North East Region about increased usage of steel as
well as to deliberate on developing the market for agro products so as to have
overall inclusive development of the region with special focus on Rural Sector.
The workshop was held in august presence of Chaudhary Birender Singh, Hon’ble
Union Minister for Steel.
Other
dignitaries attending the workshop were Shri H. Rohluna, Hon’ble Minister of
Commerce & Industries, Government of Mizoram, Smt Ruchika Chowdhury Govil,
Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel, Government of India, Shri P Madhusudan,
CMD, RINL, Shri B B Singh, CMD, MSTC Limited, Smt. Soma Mondal, Director
(Commercial), SAIL, Shri S Banerjee, DG, INSDAG.
The
delegates in the workshop included Shri A K Basu, Director (Finance), MSTC
Limited, Smt Bhanu Kumar, Director(Commercial), MSTC, Mizoram Government
Officials from the Agri and Horticulture Department, Commerce and Industry
Departments, Public Works Department, SAIL, RINL, MSTC Limited, TATA Steel, Engineering
Students, members of FPOs and others.
The
workshop was inaugurated by Shri B B Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of
MSTC Limited and Shri P Madhusudan, Chairman and Managing Director of RINL
spoke on the challenges and opportunities for steel usage in the region.
Shri
H. Rohluna, Commerce & Industry Minister, Governemnt of Mizoram said
Mizoram is one of the fastest growing economies in the North East and there are
tremendous growth potential of this region. He added that steel forms the
backbone of infrastructure development and Mizoram has greater potential of utilizing
steel for development.
Hon’ble
Steel Minister in his speech highlighted the importance that the present
Government is giving for development of North East & also the vision of
Ministry of Steel in this regard. He emphasized the significance of
connectivity for development of the region.
The
programme ended with vote of thanks followed by a cultural dance programme by troupe
of awardees of Indira Gandhi NSS Award 2015-16 Dr. Zoramdhinthara, PUC College,
Aizawl.

Union Minister of Steel, Shri Chaudhary Birender Singh will grace the occasion as Chief Guest. Senior officials and executives from Ministry of Steel, Government of India will also attend the workshop.
